9/24/2023 0 Comments Buddipole hf antenna![]() These whips are meant for anyone who needs a more durable and/or quickly deployed antenna for use with the Buddipole, or as a replacement whip for any vertical antenna. Adjustments to the shock-cord length to accommodate additional whip sections are made at either end of the antenna via a small fitting. The internal shock-cord is replaceable should the need ever arise. This is the best shock-cord available for outdoor use in all conditions. It utilizes a double stitched cover over two extra stiff rubber cores. The shock-cord that we have custom-made for us is called "extreme shock-cord” and is designed to be used even in below freezing environments. The maximum recommended number of sections for a horizontal dipole is 5 (106") and for a vertical antenna7 (148") sections. By adding a 4th section (see the drop down menu) the overall length is increased to 85". With 3 sections the overall length is roughly equivalent to our current telescopic whips (64"). One unique feature of these whips is the ability to add or remove sections to change the overall length of the antenna. ![]() Weight for eachģ-section antenna is approximately 6 ozs. Material selection is 7075 aluminum with all brass fittings. These are the same whips that we sell to our military customers who are using these in harsh conditions and need a reliable and quickly deployable solution. You can build your own surely for less than it’s price.These shock-cord whips are custom made by us to be extremely rugged yet light-weight. I have read some impressive reviews on the Alexloop, but I find it much too expensive for a simple magnetic loop antenna. You can use it also on 2 m and on 6 m (if legal). to my personal experience the Buddipole outperforms an wire-dipole (inv-v) on 15 m and on higher frequencies. Antennas include an AM-FM broadcast radio antenna, 1.8-30 Mc center-loaded HF whip, 51 Mc Whip, 28/27 Mc whip, GPS antenna under a radome on roof, 145 Mc 5/8 wave whip and VHF/UHF scanner whip. I mounted it on a 12ft painter’s pole in a park. I used it for the first time yesterday and made my first HF contact from Maryland to Colorado (USA). Don’t hesitate about this during daytime you cannot expect reaching the opposite site of the globe with reduced power on 30 m and 40 m. As backup antenna and for excercise I will try to build a home made buddipole antenna, with pvc tubes, maybe a dedicated version for 30 meters band, for my PSK31 nights from the apartment. Most people - like me - use a fishing pole. The con of a dipole is the problem to hoist it up to a sufficient height on a summit. It is relatively easy to construct a cheap and well working multi band dipole using variable lengths (no traps due to weight). In comparision a wire-dipole ist ultra-cheap, has less weight an is more effective as far as the radiation resistance is concerned on 30 and 40 m, if it is not loaded but full sized. It is my no.1 portable antenna, but not if I’m climbing difficult summits. I like the Buddipole due to its excellent mechanical construction and its flexibility (go to the Buddipole homepage an look for “bud dipole in the Field”), but it has some weight and costs real money.
